Does anyone know how Vipassana is used for addiction in Australia? I'm going there and I'd like to observe....

i'm not sure what you are referring to specifically... however i can tell you that many many people have managed to drop their addictions through the practice of vipassana.

naturally, observation is the name of the game.

      Thanks, Davi
I read somewhere that there are treatment programs in Au that use this exclusively, I should probably get off my ass and just google it!

No, they don't exclusively use Vipassana. They try & motivate them to go for a course. But they also offer other support systems like NA/AA meetings etc. They're called the Cyranian (something like that) House. I too have overcome my heroin addiction now for over 17years thanks to Vipassana. I did my 1st course in 1991.

The swiss version you could find at
They only practice a little bit of anapana to prepare their clients for a 10-day course, it they should wish to do one after a year or so.
Otherwise they use system therapy, as far as I know.

Vipassana can cure people of addictions provided that they dedicate over 2 hrs of meditation a day for the rest of their lives and they attend at least one 10 day course per year while maintaining the basic 5 precepts. In other words, live like a saint for the rest of your life or your addiction will most likely come back with a vengence. Tough call for most humans who are not saints.

      Vipassana... it's the new crack~

most will begin the process of letting their craving's go on the fourth, fifth, sixth, seventh, eighth, ninth or tenth day.

at this point you might not notice the change... so come on back, be reminded some more. and while your here.. enjoy the food and all that quietime.
